Membership Benefits

Advocates for School Trust Lands members help public schools realize hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars from their involvement.

Newsletter

The Advocates for School Trust Lands Newsletter keeps members informed on current issues and state news about trust lands and funds, including information on land and fund management to assist members in advocating for policies that will benefit public education funding in their state. It provides members with information about new revenue sources, threats in neighboring states, and provides the power of advocates joining together.

Conference

An annual conference is typically held each July concurrent with the National Association of School Trust Lands (NASTL - formerly the Western States Land Commissioners Association) to provide information on trust lands and give our members the opportunity to meet with land and fund managers. Advocates for School Trust Lands members receive a discounted conference rate, and only Advocates for School Trust Lands members may vote at the Business Meeting.

Research

Advocates for School Trust Lands can assist in research on trust land issues for members. This research can aid in promoting actions to generate greater revenue for schools. Advocates for School Trust Lands provides an annual report on your state at the Annual Conference. The research is pertinent to making the most of your school trust lands and permanent school funds. Specific research and advocacy are provided to Advocates for School Trust Lands members when requested.

Networking and Education

Advocates for School Trust Lands offers training and networking opportunities with beneficiaries, land managers, and user groups in 20 western states regarding school trust lands and permanent funds. Advocates for School Trust Lands works to educate policymakers at the local, state, and national level about the prudent and profitable use of the lands for schools.

Advocates for School Trust Lands works with various associations, industry leaders, and policymakers to craft and pass resolutions favorable to the prudent and profitable management of school trust lands and funds. Resolutions have been made and passed, by the National Education Association, the National PTA, and the National School Boards Association.
